Martyn Brookes
Martyn Brookes has experience working across the academic, health, local government, and not-for-profit sectors. From this he has gained different perspectives on improving organisational performance through research, evaluation and policy development. This balanced background makes him well placed to understand the needs and pressures of Clear Horizon’s clients. Reducing inequalities in health and addressing social exclusion are common themes across Martyn’s work history. His commitment to these has given him experience working in India, Cambodia, Tajikistan, and alongside many different ethnic and immigrant groups in multicultural London. He also has experience of working on indigenous issues of far north Queensland and the gulf of Carpentaria.
Martyn’s strong technical research skills were formed whilst working in academic population health research in the UK. These quantitative skills in social statistics and epidemiology are well complimented with a strong understanding and passion for ‘real world’ issues. This desire to apply research skills to practical issues led to a period working in public health for the UK National Health Service (NHS) on a variety of projects, such as improving access to GP services for ethnic minority groups, and improving the cultural appropriateness of health services.
