Leah Saltner
Leah Saltner is a Traditional Owner from the Birri-gubba Juru tribe in the Burdekin region, North Queensland. She has over ten years experience in Indigenous engagement and capacity building Traditional Owners in land and sea management, she also has experience in policy positions in both State and Commonwealth government.
Leah has a high level of communication and interpersonal skills, and these skills enable her to effectively communicate in accordance with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols. She has extensive skills in facilitation and consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and has the ability to articulate their interest to government and non-government organisations.
Leah previously worked with the Dept of Environment and Water as the Indigenous Land Management Facilitator (ILMF) and supported five regional NRM organisations to develop effective Indigenous engagement governance mechanisms.
Leah also worked for the Queensland State Government Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Advisory Board. Additionally she worked for two years in the Queensland Partnerships Office within the previous Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy (DATSIP) and provided policy support to the Cape York Partnerships CEO Committee.
She has also assisted her own Traditional Owner group in cultural and natural resource management, in particular she has supported them to establish effective networks, built their capacity to manage an incorporated organisation, and secure financial resources.
Leah is currently working for the Burdekin Dry Tropics NRM and builds capacity of sixteen Traditional Owner groups to effectively engage and participate in natural resource management.
